Excited Young Girl Waiting on Ice Cream

Have you ever tasted anything better than homemade ice cream? With today’s electric ice cream makers you can make ice cream to your own taste and satisfaction.

Experimentation is the key. Trying different recipes until you hit upon your favorite is part of the fun. If you are new to making ice cream, I suggest purchasing a recipe book such as Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream & Dessert Book by Ben Cohen where you will find a lot of proven and tasty recipe’s.

You will also need rock salt. Rock salt is used in the ice cream maker to melt the ice as fast as you can. When the condensation around the outside of the ice cream maker freezes, you know you have used enough rock salt. As the ice melts it gets very cold and freezes the ice cream. If the ice cream maker does not stop after one hour, you are not using enough rock salt. Rock salt is much more preferable than table salt and it is cheaper.

Do not become alarmed if the motor sounds like it is dying. As the ice cream freezes and becomes thicker the motor naturally slows down and will eventually stop. When the motor stops the ice cream is done. At this point, place the ice cream in the freezer for about one hour where it will thicken even more.

The Rival Ice Cream Maker is one of our favorites. You can make homemade ice cream, frozen yogurt, or sorbet the fun way with this durable plastic bucket ice cream maker. It has a compact design with 6 quart capacity and translucent canister lid for easy viewing. In addition, it has a powerful motor and easy to lock motor housing which eliminates the latch system. We found it simple to use and easy to clean.

Go ahead and give it a try and enjoy the most delicious ice cream you have ever tasted!
